Tempting Rever Page 28

She nodded. “I’m yours, Rever. I belong to you.” He softly growled. “We need to go.” A small smile teased his lips. “Put clothes on.

You always tempt me and make me lose my control. I wanted to wait until we were safe to share this with you.”

She smiled back. “I’m glad this happened right here and right now. I ached for you and you have no idea how much I’ve wanted this.”

“I do know since I’ve wanted you as much as you wanted me. It has been torture resisting the urge to take you as often as I have wished I could.” He gently put her down on the floor. “Get dressed. They will wake soon and we need to be across the border before they do.”

She dressed quickly, watching Rever grab empty bags, filling them with supplies around the room and strapping all four bags on the motorcycle-looking vehicle closest to the door. Her heart was pounding with fear and excitement over having to get across the border without detection. The uniform was leather, the shirt and the pants were a little big on her, but she hoped from a distance that she could fool the guards into thinking she was a young man. Rever finished supplying the two-wheeled vehicle and then crouched down by the men to check on them. His head rose.

“Stay while I retrieve your backpack from the woods. Don’t move. If one of them wakes I want you to hit him.” He stood up, walking to a wall, and jerked down what resembled a baton from a shelf. He turned, striding for her. “Here. Hit the back of the head but not too hard. I don’t want them to die.”

“I don’t either.”

He gave a jerk of his head before he was gone. She guarded the two men on the floor feeling dread at the notion of them waking up, not wanting to hit either man. She sat down to put on her boots to finish getting ready while she waited and watched the guards. In minutes relief hit her when Rever returned with her backpack. He held it while she stood up and then handed it over to her.

“They will open the gate when they see us approach and you wearing this will help hide your smaller frame from the guard’s notice if you put it on. Hang onto me tightly, Brenda. If things go bad we will flee and the territory out there is very harsh so the ride may grow difficult.”

He got on the big bike. She hesitated and then climbed on the wide seat behind him.

Rever handed her a big helmet. She figured out the strap easily enough since it was similar to the ones at home, only the face shielding was tinted a dark blue. Her arms wrapped around Rever as he started the motor. She noticed then that he’d opened both double doors when he’d returned with her backpack.

“Don’t speak if they stop us.”

“I could have guessed that since you said I’m supposed to be a boy.” A chuckle sounded from Rever. “Are you ready, Brenda? Are you sure you want to do this?” He turned his head.

She couldn’t see his face with the tinted helmet on, making his features nothing but a shadow. That meant he couldn’t see her face either, which was a good thing, she decided, because she was terrified. She hoped he couldn’t smell that. Everything he’d said about the Outlander area told her it was as dangerous as hell.

“I’m sure. I want to be with you and if this is the only way then let’s go.” He turned back around, lifting his boot, and the vehicle slowly pulled forward. She was surprised at how quietly the motor ran. She felt the vibration of it but there really wasn’t much of a sound except a soft hum. Rever drove them out of the building to a dirt road leading toward the wall. As they drew closer Brenda couldn’t see around Rever’s tall frame and wide back so she clung tighter to his waist.

Rever lifted an arm, motioning to someone. Brenda shut her eyes, just praying they weren’t going to be caught. When the bike slowed but didn’t stop, she opened her eyes just in time to see a guard was standing there holding open the gate as they rode past.

She stared at the Zorn guard but he didn’t look at them. He was holding the gate in one hand, a weapon in the other, while he scanned the area they were heading for.

Were attacks that bad that the man was constantly on alert like that? That thought sent a shiver of fear through Brenda. She was about to experience the Outlander area herself.

Can Rever really keep me safe? She hoped so when she gripped him tighter as their speed increased as he gave the machine more power.

A few minutes later his body relaxed. “We’re clear.” He spoke just loud enough for her to hear him. “We’re out of range of them stopping us and the patrols are shallow this far out. Now we just have to worry about the residents. We’re heading into the remote and harsh mountains to the third moon region. It’s difficult to reach it without a vehicle so many of the wild males won’t go there but I’ve been there plenty of times. I think it is the safest and best location for us to live.”

“I trust you.” She meant it.

Rever kept them at a fast pace even after the sun went down. Brenda was glad she couldn’t see what they were driving on because judging by the way her ass hurt from slamming and jarring on the seat, the terrain had to be pretty rough. Hours seemed to pass before the bike finally slowed.

Rever shut it off, turned his head, and looked back at her. It was dark except for the headlights still on so she could make him out since the lights were behind him. She eased her hold on him as he gave her a nod, climbing off, and stretched his arms and legs. She was stiff herself after the hours of holding onto him tightly on the rough ride.

“We’ll have to walk the rest of the way but we are close.” She climbed off the seat and did a little stretching of her own. Her ass felt numb but sensation returned in a few minutes while she stared up at the three moons, all placed in different areas of the night sky. Bright stars shone in the clear night. The smell of the woods on Zorn was very similar to Earth with the strong tree and dirt scents. She could see the shapes of tall trees around them, nothing more than dark shadows in the night.

“Where are we? What is around us?”

“There is a cave up ahead with water that we’ll move into. We will survive nicely there and it will be comfortable. I will take good care of you, Brenda.”

“I know you will.”

He turned and she saw him doing something to the bike. In seconds she realized he was unloading it. She moved closer.
