Something Forever Page 77

I moaned, feeling Max press his groin into me. I wanted him now. Cold air took his place when he stepped away. “Your parents are waiting downstairs. We should get going. I’m not going to be able to resist another touch from you.”

“When do you plan on coming back to work?” Matthew asked, taking a bite of his pasta. “Not that I’m rushing you. Or is my brother making you stay home?”

Max placed his glass down and raised a brow. “I’m not making Jenna do anything. She can speak her mind. Right, babe?”

I peered up, seeing both of them waiting for my answer. Lost in deep thought for a second, I was twirling my spaghetti noodles with a fork. Max and I had discussed this issue several times. Max wanted me to be a stay at home mom, but I had other plans. I reassured him that everything would be fine. My parents would watch Connor three days a week. We finally compromised on me working part time. Also, we agreed not to hire a nanny, but we would have a housekeeper instead. As for Becky, her job allowed her to work at home fulltime. That was the beauty of our schedule. We got the best of both worlds.

“Max doesn’t make me do anything, or else he knows he’ll be sleeping in one of the guest rooms,” I confidently said with a smirk.

Becky nudged Matthew with her elbow when he started chuckling. “Don’t laugh. I tell you that all the time.”

As laughter rang in the air, I recalled the days when Becky and I lived together. We were so scared to date our husbands back then. We guarded our hearts because we thought they would hurt us, that they weren’t the ideal husband types. How wrong we were. In fact, they are the perfect model of what idea husbands should be. Just because they were good-looking and successful didn’t mean that they were like the other playboy types. We had to give them a chance. I was just glad Becky and I had found our true loves and we both found what we were looking for.

During dessert, our topic changed to Connor and Addison. Though I knew he was home safe with my parents, I missed him. I didn’t know if the reason was because I missed him, but I felt my breast pads dampening. It was feeding time. Luckily, I had pumped before I left.

Matthew slid his chair out. “We should get going home. Becky and I hardly slept last night.” Matthew paused. “No, that’s not what I meant. Get your mind out of there,” he said to Max, chuckling. “Addison woke up too many times. She’s teething.”

“It’s not fun.” Becky closed her eyes. She did look little out of it, but she was still gorgeous in her black dress that was similar to mine.

“We should get going, too,” Max said, standing up. “I’ll get the bill this time.” Max pulled out my chair and helped me slip into my sweater.

“After the stunt you pulled in Paris, you’ll be paying the bill from now on,” Matthew joked. “That was my idea.”

“If I recall—and I do recall correctly…I’m never wrong—it was my idea,” Max retorted.

I knew they were playing around by the sound of their tone, but enough was enough. Becky and I looked at each other and started walking away together.

“Becca,” Matthew followed behind like a lost puppy. “After we get married in Paris, we’re swinging by China before we come home.”

“Where do you think you’re going without me?” Max whispered, whisking me into his arms. Then he turned back to Matthew. “Why are you going to China?”

Becky offered a huge smile as the four of us walked out the door. “We didn’t want to tell you guys until it was final, but we got approved. We’re going next month to check out their adoption facility. We’re trying to decide which country to adopt our child from. We’re not planning to adopt until Addison is at least three, but we were told that it could take years, so we’re planning ahead.”

“That’s wonderful, Becky.” I squeezed her tightly. “I can’t wait to be a part of your wedding, and I can’t wait to plan your bridal shower.”

“I did this all backwards, didn’t I? Baby shower before bridal shower.”

“No one said that was the way it had to be. We go with the flow.”

“When did you become so wise, Mrs. Knight?”

I looked over to Max. “When I met Mr. Knight.”

Chapter 38

Becky

I was tired as hell, but it had been a while since Matthew and I were intimate. He had been trying, but my lack of self-esteem from gaining weight and being tired had turned me off. Matthew had been so understanding, supportive, and loving that I wanted to show him how thankful I was for having an amazing husband.

Matthew plopped on the bed. “Addison is finally asleep. Are you out of the shower or shall I join you?” I heard him snicker under his breath. Matthew was positioned with both of his arms tucked under his neck, showing off his well-defined muscles. I walked out of the bathroom to see him half asleep.

“Matthew,” I said softly. I believed it was the way I said his name that made him flash his eyes open with a grin.

“You’re going to take off your robe for me?” He twitched his brows with a hungry look.

“Maybe, maybe not.” I threw my head back slightly to allow the towel that was wrapped around my hair to drop. Slowly, I untied the robe and let it glide off my shoulder, but not all the way. The wetness of my hair felt cool on my skin, causing me to shiver, but it was more the way Matthew was looking at me that caused that sensation. His eyes were like hands, undressing me, touching me, and I could already feel him.
